WR attempt for Shaheen on Golden League Brussels
Saif Saaeen Shaheen (picture: on the Golden League in Brussels in 2005), the 23 year old reigning world champion and world record holder in the steeplechaise discipline, will attempt to improve his own WR tomorrow on the last but one Golden League Event "Memorial Ivo Vandamme" in the King Boudewijn Stadium in Brussels. After the previous Golden League event, past week in de Weltklasse in Zurich, the steeplechaiser told he is not happy with the performance of his tempo makers. Now Shaheen is sollicitating for 3 new tempo makers who will bring him to the 2km point. "The track in Brussels is a quick one, i know that. I never run a race in Brussels who disappointed me."
However, a problem is raising for Shaheen. Peter Koech was announced to be one of the three tempo makers for Shaheen, but Koech announced recently that he will not do it. Also other distance runners don't seem to be in a very good shape to guide Shaheen to a new WR in the steeplechaise discipline. "I want to run a time of 7.52 or even beneath it", Shaheen made clear. With only one day left till the big day for Shaheen, the organisation hasn't announced yet the ultimate tempo makers who will participate in the WR attempt...
Past week, the organisation of the GL-event in Brussels worked very hard to finish the new track. A brandnew track has been installed. It seems even that this one is a little bit quicker than the one of the year(s) before. This is good news for Shaheen, of course. But... Unluckily, the Belgian meteo services announce bad, rainy wether for Brussels on friday.
